Fatbook is a 7 piece rock ensemble that fuses in your face groove with delicate horn colors. Originating from the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music, these young men know a thing or two about orchestral excerpts. Come hear the funky rhythms and hip-hop back beats that will make you want to move. Fatbook has been named the "college rock/pop/blues band of the year" - by Downbeat Magazine in 2009 and 2010.

Art is all about the moment, with the intensity of in your face honesty. Murielle Rae (guitar) and Gaelen Mitchell (drums) were compiling their musical ideas in a old house in Nashville,TN. One night out at a local rock show they met another enthusiastic musician Patrick Ward (bass) who would complete their trio and bring the final keystone of rocking energy to the band. Spring of 2010 came the release of The Grayces first work on 7" vinyl. Presently, they are in-studio recording a new full length record due fall 2010, which will launch their upcoming tours. Supported by Broke Rock Records and their blooming, spirited rock they will bring you a live show to never forget.

Young is a singer/songwriter from Griffin Georgia. For the last six years he's been living in Chicago playing with the popular Beatles Tribute American English as "John". Young has shared stages with several infamous rock Icons such as Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis. During all of this Young has been writing and performing his own music. His song "Only in a Dream" was recently covered by Brendan Benson of the Raconteurs, and co-wrote the song "Keep Me" him. He has recorded 2 albums while in Chicago, and is finishing up a third. Young's live show ranged from performing solo, then to the use of technology using loops to create a one man band, and finally to a raw 3 piece rock band. His live show builds to a crescendo.

Life is Living: Houston
The Mitchell Center, in partnership with artist-in-residence Marc Bamuthi Joseph, the Living Word Project and Youth Speaks, Inc., will host Life Is Living: Houston, a hip-hop-based environmental justice festival. Focused primarily on Houstons Third Ward neighborhood, the festival further connects University of Houston with its surrounding community and celebrates the extraordinary people who sustain the cultural life in Houston's Third Ward.
Life Is Living: Houston is part of the Mitchell Centers multi-year residency with performer, poet, and choreographer Marc Bamuthi Joseph. Local organizing partners include Meta-Four Houston, Project Row Houses, Aerosol Warfare, The Awakenings Movement, CKC StART Street & Urban Arts, Community Artists Collective, DiverseWorks, The Last Organic Outpost, the Houston Museum of African American Culture, MOCAH, New Living, S.H.A.P.E. Community Center, 3 Sisters in the Spirit Ministries, SPAMMO, Tour de Hood, Workshop Houston, Houston Green Scene, Urban Harvest, Youth Advocates, and various programs at the University of Houston including the School of Theatre & Dance, C.L.A.S.P., MVP and the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture.
Life Is Living is a national campaign that generates partnerships between diverse and underserved communities, green action agencies, local community groups, urban environmental activists, and the contemporary arts world. Life is Living encompasses a series of six-hour inter-disciplinary, intergenerational, eco-equity festivals in neglected parks in underserved neighborhoods around the country. Previous cities include Oakland, CA; Harlem, NY; and Chicago, IL.
